Advocate Spotlight: Jenn Nydahl

Updated: Mar 9

Jenn Nydahl has lived in the Gorge for five years and completed her training as a CASA volunteer in April 2025 becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate. Her motivation for volunteering came from witnessing upheaval around the world and feeling powerless. She realized that becoming a CASA volunteer advocate was a meaningful way to take action and make a positive difference in the life of a child.

Jenn’s favorite part of her advocacy is getting to know the children in her case. She says, “It takes time and intention, but feels so good when I get a meaningful relationship win! The other day I was visiting my CASA kids at their apartment. Normally when I say goodbye, the younger sibling gives me a fist bump. On this day, he gave me a big hug. Then, as I was walking to my car, he asked if he could have one more hug. I felt pretty great.”

A major part of each volunteer’s advocacy is submitting court reports that help give the judge a clearer understanding of what is happening in a child’s life. Jenn believes her advocacy helps provide a fuller picture of the child’s experience. She says, “I take pride in my court reports. It's important to me that the Judge receives a detailed understanding of my CASA kids, including their situation and needs. There was a moment in my last report where the judge asked me a follow-up question about a school program I mentioned. It was encouraging to know that he took the report seriously and genuinely valued my opinion.”

Being a CASA volunteer has been a humbling experience for Jenn. She says, “I love my CASA kids. They are the best! Being trusted with the details of their lives and asked to share my perspective on how to best advocate for them is a privilege I value.”

In conclusion, Jenn encourages others to get involved with CASA. As she went through the training, she felt the program provided her with the tools to feel prepared and supported as she took on her first case. She also encourages people to support the organization saying, “if you enjoy connecting with kids on an individual level, this is a great role for you”
