For over 15 years, Glenna Gibson has called the Gorge home. But it was a little over a year ago that she became a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) voluntee. After being sworn in as a CASA volunteer by Judge Wolf in April 2023, Glenna has immersed herself in advocacy with a passion that’s truly inspiring.
Glenna’s journey to becoming a CASA volunteer wasn’t sudden; it was a long-standing aspiration. “I had wanted to be an advocate for a long time,” she shares. And once she began, she dove in with remarkable dedication. Taking on her first case, Glenna has not only fulfilled her duties but has gone above and beyond. She’s been a constant presence for the children she supports, meeting with them multiple times each month and even helping them with their schoolwork.
What drives Glenna in her role is the joy of forming genuine connections. “Being there to assist the children and building a bond with them” is her favorite part of advocacy. Though it took time for her CASA children to warm up to her, once they did, they knew they could count on her. Glenna’s commitment has been evident in every interaction, and her efforts have made a significant difference in their lives.
Glenna adds that she had some difficulty with the CASA report, which can seem daunting when someone is new to CASA and the child welfare system, but she definitely got the hang of it! Glenna regularly provides the judge on her case with a snapshot of the kids' lives and recommendations she creates based on the information she gathers on the case.
Despite the demanding nature of her role, Glenna finds it rewarding rather than stressful. Her advice to those contemplating a similar path? “If you enjoy being around children, it would be the perfect fit.”
If Glenna’s story has inspired you, consider becoming a CASA volunteer yourself. Your time, dedication, and compassion could be the beacon of hope a child needs. Join us in making a meaningful impact in our community.
